Mosaic Stepping Stone Instructions

  • Mosaic stepping stones are great projects for beginners.
  • The easiest way to make a mosaic stepping stone is to pour concrete into a mold and put mosaic tiles, stones, marbles or china fragments in the surface of the concrete while it is still wet.
  • Plastic dish pans and plastic 5-gallon buckets make good molds for concrete stepping stones.
  • Pour the concrete so that it is 2 inches thick, then push the mosaic tiles into the wet concrete.
  • You can use all sorts of random materials in addition to mosaic tiles:  marbles, pieces of broken bottles and dishes, gemstones, etc.  Buy a few mosaic tiles, and then spend a week looking for other materials to use with the tile.
  • Seal the stone with concrete sealer after it has hardened for a few days.
  • Don't put too many mosaic tiles and glass pieces in the surface of the stepping stone, or it will be slippery when wet.
  • Make your own design in your stepping stone.  In my opinion, most of the stepping stone kits from stained glass stores are boring, and the designs look like they were made in the 1970's.
