"Don Quixote Eight Ball" contemporary figurative painting

Don Quixote is like many of my paintings: an experiment with new media and methods that is subject to being painted over the minute I get tired of looking at it. Or need the canvas for a new painting. Lately I've been using glazes and semi-opaque dilutions of media on textured/recycled canvases, and this appears to give me the hues and the control that I've been looking for for years. However, I want to make sure I've considered other options before focusing exclusively, so I've done a few mixed-media experiments with ink. Don Quixote Eight Ball is one of these experiments. Drawing isn't painting, but it is so natural for me. The modern marker can be held on its side and used in the same way as a piece of charcoal. Regardless of the failures of any particular painting, I feel like my art is converging on the images I see in my head, and the process of creating them is feeling more and more natural and relaxed all the time.
